Elgin's Shrinking Natural Resources
Elgin's shrinking natural resources
Due to the rapid growth and expansion of our population as well as in building commercial buildings in the Elgin area, the natural resources that enhance our community are diminishing. Because of this, we need to be more considerate of where we are expanding and how we are growing as a city.
Recently, a large chunk of agricultural land was destroyed to make room for a new Walmart. As a result, it has taken away land that could be used for crops, is increasing the costs of energy and power in the area, and also decreasing the natural environment.
This is just one example of what is happening all around the Elgin area, and it needs to be controlled in order for our city to support itself.
Get the facts on Gettysburg reading
After hearing all the GOP outrage regarding President Obama's omission of "Under God" from his reading of the Gettysburg Address for a documentary by Ken Burns, I figured that the readers and letter writers would soon be penning their own misinformed letters. But the actual truth is that there were five manuscripts, and Mr. Burns asked the president to read the "Nicolay" draft, which was the first version. Guess the shock and awe from this reading is again another thing to bad-mouth the president about. Except they don't even know their history or seem to care about the truth.
