Year of Fine Art Exhibits; ADFAS Celebrate New Line-Up of Talks and Shows for Creative Community
NEWLY elected chairwoman Jan Davison is proud to head the Australian Decorative and Fine Arts Society Rockhampton (ADFAS) which has been bringing both Australian and overseas lecturers of repute to the area for 18 years.
She said members enjoy eight visiting lecturers per year, six from the UK and two Australian speakers.
"Topics are eclectic and never dull," Jan said.
For example, 2013 saw Hilary Kay present A Century of Toys, Mary Alexander talked about the colourful history of the Waldorf Astoria hotels in New York and John Neylon discussed the relationship between Hans and Nora Heysen.
She said 2014 would be no different.
"Again we are spoilt with the excellent Prof R Clancy on The Maps that Shaped Australia, noted artist Ghislaine Howard will discuss Painting in the Open Air, local speaker Dr Susan Scollay will introduce us to the mysterious Transylvanian Ottoman carpets.
"There will also be talks on Bhutan, the treasures of St Petersburg, Rudyard Kipling in Rajasthan and the sculpture of Constantin Brancusi. …
