CRICKET: Two weeks ago, Josh Brady took nine wickets in an innings to record the best ever figures for a Gympie Gold bowler.

Now he has batted Gympie into the Sunshine Coast Division One grand final after a nail-biting semi-final win on the weekend.

Finishing the regular season in third spot on the ladder, the Gold went into the match at Ron McMullin Oval on Saturday needing a victory, as a draw would have been enough for second-placed Maroochydore to advance to the final.

The home-side won the toss and chose to bat on a flat wicket, and was all over Gympie at 1-106 before Travis Chandler removed Dan Hall for 16 just before lunch.

MAROOCHYDORE opening batsman Adam Thornton continued where he left off after the break, as he and Chris Davies put on 86 runs for the third wicket.

Kaden Dickfos then had Davies caught behind to spark a mini-collapse, as 2-192 was soon 6-227, as Gympie's bowlers started to wrestle back momentum.

"It was scorching hot and there was nothing in the pitch for the bowlers, so it was pretty terrible conditions to be in the field," Gold captain Troy Ashton said.

"Maroochydore were well on top early, but we really dug in for that middle session and clawed our way back."

The tail dug in, as number eight Michael Goodluck added 53 with Thornton, whose masterful innings eventually ended on 149 when he became Dickfos' third scalp. …
