Kutsor, Lake Zurich Rally to Win Pekin Consolation Crown

The red-hot three-point shooting of Ryan Kutsor carried Lake Zurich's boys basketball team to a consolation championship at Pekin.

Kutsor scored 25 points, sinking 6 of 8 shots from three-point range, as the Bears rallied to beat Champaign Centennial 53-48 Thursday afternoon to capture the consolation championship of the Pekin Insurance Holiday Tournament.

Lake Zurich (8-3) won its last three games in the tournament. The Bears trailed 36-27 after three quarter but outscored Centennial 26-12 in the fourth. Michael Bens added 10 points for Lake Zurich, Peter DiCerbo had 9 points and 5 rebounds, and Brian Chmiel contributed 6 points and 2 assists.

Kutsor scored 20 or more points in each of the Bears' four games, averaging 22.5 ppg. He shot a blistering 61 percent (19 of 31) on three-point shots.

Stevenson 57, St. Viator 22: Justin Smith had 26 points and 9 rebounds, and the Patriots secured their spot in the consolation championship game of the Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic with a convincing win.

Stevenson (9-2) led from wire-to-wire, scoring the game's first 20 points and never looking back. The Patriots outscored the Lions 15-0 in the first quarter and scored the first five points of the second quarter before St. Viator (4-8) got on the scoreboard. The Lions missed their first 14 shots from the floor and trailed 25-9 at the half.

Stevenson continued to pull away in the second half, outscoring St. Viator 17-4 in the third quarter. Leading by 16 with 3:49 left in the quarter, the Patriots scored the next 13 points to lead 42-13 after three. The Patriots continued to cruise in the fourth, leading by as many as 39 points before coasting to the 35-point victory.

Stevenson shot 57.9 percent (22-of-38) from the floor and outscored St. Viator 30-14 in the paint. Smith led the attack, pouring in his game-high 26 points in just 22 minutes of action. Willie Herenton added 8 points for the Patriots.

St. Viator shot just 25.0 percent (10-of-40) from the floor and did not have a 3-pointer (0-for-11) in the contest. Addison Lubert came off the bench to total a team-leading 7 points and 7 rebounds for the Lions.

Stevenson will face St. Charles East in the consolation championship game at 3:45 p.m. Friday. St. Viator will clash with Maine South at 12:30 p. …
