Rob Smith is a primary school teacher and the curator of the Literacy Shed. He is a school librarian's dream; he reads, he enjoys books, he shares that joy with others. and what's more he is organised.

He started the website and blog and it has grown considerably since I was first aware of it, and continues to expand. The Literacy Shed is a wealth of visual resources. Rob makes the effort to trawl YouTube, Vimeo and other sites looking for suitable resources to use in the sheds (folders).

The sheds are broadly thematic but even searching for a particular theme, you can't help but get sidetracked by all the useful resources on the site. Most resources are suitable for KS1 and KS2 but some can be used with KS3. 'The aim is to provide high quality resources that can be used in stand-alone literacy lessons, can form the basis for a whole literacy unit or can support literacy units that you already have in place. With the many book based activities I would advocate using the book alongside the digital resource.' Because this comes from a teacher's point of view, for literacy read Reading for Pleasure. These digital resources or films are usually short and not the commercial films we know, so they do need to be viewed first for relevance by other users.

Rob's blog is searchable via timeframe or theme. He offers a list of other likeminded followers on Twitter with comments on their content, e.g. for someone we know and love--"@Libwithattitude--with attitude like this the books are never late back.' [Thanks for the mention!--SLA Digital Editor.]
