Oklahoma University Adds Innovative Departments

OKLAHOMA CITY--March 13 will usher in a new commitment to the significance of America's contribution to dance and management of the performing arts at Oklahoma City University: President Stephen G. Jennings will announce the establishment of the OCU School of American Dance & Arts Management. The new school will consist of the university's existing dance and arts management programs.
The announcement will be made during a campus-wide celebration featuring performances by the dance department's resident performing group, American Spirit Dance Company, March 11 to 13. Cholly Adkins will receive the OCU Living Treasure in American Dance Award, and Sali Ann Kriegsman and Melba Huber will be awarded OCU's Preservation of Our Heritage Awards.
John Bedford, associate dean of the existing programs, will become dean of the new school within the university. His wife, Jo Rowan, who founded the dance program in 1981, will retain her title as chairman of the dance department. On July 1, OCU will boast the first school of American dance within a university in the state. …
