India: Desperately Seeking Suppliers
It felt very good reading Stacey Wagner's article, "Oh, Calcutta!" in the August 1999 issue. She touched on many facets of training and development--and rightfully so. There are tremendous opportunities for global training vendors in this part of the world.
Having worked in the field for the last four years, I have encountered training suppliers who still don't understand the need to align training to business requirements. Employers are still nominating people for training programs as an incentive. That is also because training vendors and trainers have laid very little emphasis on training needs [analysis], training outcomes (beyond reaction levels), and so on.
Thank you for this article, which will also help mature training organizations around the world enter the Indian market with their validated training methodology.
