Brum, a Key Force in the UK Economy
BIRMINGHAM is widely acknowledged as a key force in the UK economy.
Therefore, Birmingham City Council, Birmingham and Solihull Training and Enterprise Council and Birmingham Chamber of Commerce and Industry, through the Birmingham Economic Development Partnership, are committed to the economic and physical regeneration of the city.
With Birmingham facing significant economic challenges in the next decade, the partnership and other agencies in the city need to fully understand the economic processes at work. They must also share analyses of the problems and opportunities in Birmingham.
Centre of excellence
BEIC, a partnership between the city council's Economic Development Department and the TEC, was created to provide a centre of excellence in the provision of information and analysis of these challenges.
The Centre provides an economic and labour market forecasting and analysis service to the Economic Development Partnership and other partners engaged in economic development work in Birmingham.
It seeks to create a broad consensus around a wide range of economic, social, labour market and property trends and issues.
It also supports the Economic Development Strategy for Birmingham and the plans of other agencies.
The Centre's formation marked the first time that a local authority and a TEC had agreed to work together through a joint facility to provide an independent and comprehensive view of the local economy.
This, the fifth Birmingham Economic Review, is a typical and important example of the Centre's work, which includes a range of publications, reports and presentations, all aimed at providing an impartial source of information to support policy development and economic regeneration in the city
KEEPING BIRMINGHAM INFORMED
In addition to the annual Economic Review, the BEIC has a family of publications to inform decision makers in the public, private and voluntary sectors.
These publications are also extensively used by members of the public and by UK and European organisations seeking objective information on the Birmingham economy.
Economic Briefing, published quarterly:
Economic Briefing is the BEIC's assessment of national and local economic trends and each issue includes economic forecasts for Birmingham. …
