GO 2: Exhibitions: The Fine Art of Woodwork; Professionals Show off Their Skills at a Warwickshire Exhibition

THE Midlands Woodworking and Woodturning exhibition opens today for three days at the Warwickshire exhibition centre near Leamington, on the Southam Road.
You can see woodcarving, woodturning, toys, carpentry, pole turning, joinery and cabinet making - and more!
There are displays and demonstrations from local woodworking groups and national associations including Warwickshire College which has a furniture making workshop.
Well-known professionals at the show include Dave Johnson, Jim Cooper, Reg Sherwin, Geoff Dixon, Michael Painter and Ray Jones.
There are also trade stands and tools from all the leading suppliers.
The exhibition centre is on the Leamington to Southam road, just past the junction with the Fosse Way, the B4455. It is well signposted. Prices are pounds 7 (pounds 6 OAPs and pounds 3 children) Open 10am- 5pm each day. Ticket hotline 01926 614101.
Self-taught city artist
AN exhibition of oils, watercolours, pastels and prints by Coventry artist Valerie Kaye is on display at the Priory Theatre, Rosemary Hill, Kenilworth from Wednesday, April 21 to Saturday, May 1.
The show runs with the theatre's production of Daisy Pulls It Off. Doors open at 6.45pm and entrance is free.
"I am a Coventry artist born into an artistic family and self-taught," said Valerie.
Her subjects include landscapes, still lives and animals. She sold her first picture in 1968. An oil painting of a cat won her a national painting competition and she was invited to join the Coventry Art Guild and the Coventry and Warwickshire Society of Artists - of which she is now secretary. She is also a member of the Friends of the Mead Gallery who exhibit at Warwick University. Her work has been shown at the Mall Galleries in London, the Royal Academy and the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists.
