EVEN the best need a bit of help sometimes to lick the competition.
Rugby firm ToyVend, the country's biggest supplier of sweet and toy vending machines, has been working with Business Link to cut costs and develop sales.
It employs 18 staff at Butlers Leap and in June took over nearest rival Universal Leisure, taking on the Birkenhead firm's clients and stock and putting it in pole position in the market.
Now ToyVend has teamed up with the business advisers to consolidate that success and increase a pounds 4 million turnover.
Adviser John West suggested improvements such as using Just In Time supply for the small plastic containers in which the toys and sweets are sold, saving pounds 3,000 in the first instance.
Now the relationship has developed and Mr West is working closely with managing director Chris Hughes on an on-going sales strategy.
Mr West said: "When I first met Chris he was very doubtful whether we could add any value to his business, so it has been very rewarding to contribute to ToyVend's success. …
