Organizational Skills Key for Junior High Students
When it comes to organizational skills, my husband and I are complete opposites. I tend to write "To Do" lists, mark up the calendar and check it frequently. My husband, well, the nearest scrap of paper, napkin or candy wrapper will do. In the end, both systems appear to work, one perhaps more efficiently.
While there are no courses at our local schools for teaching organizational skills, organization is a must for students at an early age. Fourth grade is the first year an assignment notebook is required, and it becomes absolutely necessary in junior high. In fact, it is key to success at school. Staying organized ultimately helps improve homework performance and communication with parents according to Bob Lipinski, principal of Cary Junior High.
"The assignment notebook is an important way for students to centrally organize all of their homework and activities," Lipinski said. "We don't teach organization as a subject area, but we integrate organizational skills into all subject areas through use of the assignment notebook. …
