Domestic Firms to Take Part in 50 Overseas Exhibitions in 2000
Thirty-seven manufacturer organizations will arrange for their members to take part in 50 exhibitions in 13 countries in 2000 with additional support provided by the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA).
The exhibitions include nine in the United States, including Comdex; eight in Hong Kong, seven in Germany, including the 2000 Hannover Expo from June 1-Oct. 31; five in Japan, including the Tokyo parts exhibition; five in China, including the industrial exhibition in Shanghai and four in Britain, including the game exhibition.
The Commerce, Industry and Energy Ministry said yesterday that the government will provide financial support to those taking part in the Hannover Expo and the Tokyo parts exhibition and will encourage manufacturers to participate in knowledge-oriented exhibitions, such as the game exhibition in London, the horticulture exhibition in Tokyo and the raw pharmaceuticals materials show in Milan.
A total of selected 225 small or venture companies will be financed to take part in new technology-oriented exhibitions to encourage more exports and get a grasp of world technology development information.
The ministry has set aside 18 billion won to subsidize smaller manufacturers which hope to take part in overseas exhibitions and to improve the image of the nation and its commodities.
On the domestic front, the ministry will subsidize four or five large exhibitions to contribute to exports. These international events will be hosted at three large exhibition centers to be built beginning next year. …
