Tory Party Conferance: 'Winterval' Is Idiocy - Hague; Festival 'Is Political Correctness Gone Mad'
TORY leader William Hague today blasted Birmingham's Winterval festival as he fired-up his attack on the way the second city was run.
Mr Hague was using his key-note address to the Conservative conference to hit out at the controversial renaming of the Christmas break as a prime example of the tide of political correctness sweeping Britain.
But his move to single out the second city over a policy now dropped by councillors provoked anger and reignited the row he sparked three years ago when he used the same platform to denounce Birmingham as 'rotten to the core' because of Labour debts.
Mr Hague was set to say: 'I want all these people who despair of this politically correct idiocy to know that we are going to govern for them.'
Birmingham Council leader Albert Bore said today: 'Comments like these do nothing for Birmingham's reputation and the efforts we are making to turn this city around.
'Birmingham is a success and this shows how out of touch Mr Hague is with the city. …
