Talent from the world of music

XU Limited, the Leamington art gallery, is fast gaining a reputation for bringing some exciting exhibitions to the area.

This latest show, organised with Jonathan Poole, agent for John Lennon/ Miles Davis art estates, is no exception.

Musicians as Artists, featuring the work of Klaus Voorman, John Illsley, Miles Davis and John Lennon, will be opened by John Illsley and Klaus Voorman at the Royal Pump Rooms next Wednesday at 6pm.

But you'll have to be quick to see this show of originals and limited edition prints - it's only on for a few days, until October 14.

The work of John Lennon, the former Beatles singer, will be on display at XU, in Park Street, and the main exhibition is in the Pump Rooms.

Klaus Voorman, bassist and artist who won a Grammy for his Beatles' Revolver album, has drawings and paintings from his Hamburg Days on show; John Illsley of Dire Straits has recent paintings on show; and Miles Davis, the world-famous jazz musician, uses hot colours and swirling shapes in his dashing pictures.

Animal magic

NEW work by talented Sally Matthews - best known for her outdoor sculptures - is on at Rugby art gallery until Oct 15.

The exhibition includes a series of drawings and two large group sculptures of ponies and sheep.

Sally gives a talk on her work on Thursday, Oct 12, at 1pm.

Also at Rugby: Glass Painting on Sunday, Oct 8, 2-4pm. Free and suitable for all ages. Watch the experts and have a go yourself.

Artists are invited to submit work for Rugby Open Exhibition (Oct 28- Dec 3). Applications from the gallery on 01788 533201.
