Round Lake Beach Golfers to Get a New Clubhouse

Next year golfers at Renwood Golf Course will be able to enjoy a cold beverage in the comfort of a new clubhouse before embarking on the back nine.
The Round Lake Area Park District is building a second clubhouse and adding amenities to the golf course this winter.
The work will cost an estimated $1.7 million. The district issued bonds to pay for the work, which will be repaid through greens fees.
When the work is finished, the Round Lake Beach course will look and feel like most other courses, district director Jim Rock said.
"Typically when you finish nine holes you finish back at the clubhouse," Rock said. "Now the golfers end up as far from the clubhouse as possible. This will be much more convenient for our golfers."
In addition to the new clubhouse, which is being built on Shorewood Drive, the park district is expanding and improving the driving range, enlarging the maintenance building and putting up a small starter's house at the new first hole, which is currently the third hole.
"The clubhouse was designed with the golfer in mind," Rock said. "It was not designed to be a large banquet facility."
The new clubhouse will feature a larger pro shop, food and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
Rock said the former owners planned to build a new clubhouse on the site when they expanded the course to 18 holes more than 15 years ago. …
