Naperville Hires 7 Special Education Teachers

When classes resume in the fall, Naperville schools will have nearly 10 more teachers, mostly helping special education students.
As the second part of a three-step hiring program, Naperville Unit District 203 officials are laying plans to add the equivalent of 9.6 full-time teachers for the fall.
Of the new jobs, about seven teaching positions are in the district's special education program. The remaining jobs are in regular education classes, said Ron Gibson, associate superintendent for elementary education.
"These are the positions we anticipate we're going to need for next year," Gibson said. "We know a bit more about our special education needs and we know a bit more about the students who will be in one program or another, based on our annual reviews of students."
If fall registration shows the district needs fewer special education teachers than educators estimate, the money set aside to pay the teachers would be reallocated to pay for other education expenses, Gibson said.
