U-46 Makes Progress on Training Employees in Decision-Making Skills

Last year, educational consultant W. Patrick Dolan told people in Elgin Area School District U-46 it had come a long way in moving decision-making power away from the central administration building and to the schools.
Last night, union leaders, teachers, administrators and parents were reminded again they still have a long way to go.
Three more teams have asked for the training that will enable them to make their own decisions: Streamwood Elementary School, the district's grounds keeping staff and the district's educational services and school/community relations staff.
The district's goal is to have people at every school and in every department trained by the end of 2000.
As more schools receive the training, more questions arise.
At Dolan's urging, members of the U-46 Partnership Council have started visiting the schools who already have received the training for "deep listening" sessions about what is happening there.
But some of the schools would rather the Partnership Council members spend their time answering questions rather than listening. …
