Voicing a concern
On Dec. 15, I was among the 200 residents of Sun City in Huntley who were treated to a presentation by Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert.
Unfortunately, I was unable to voice directly to him my concerns about a topic which, I am sure, was of interest to many of the members of the audience. I would, therefore, like to present my comments to him via the public forum of a letter to the editor as follows:
Rep. Hastert: My main concern nowadays is whether my grandchildren can go to their schools without the fear of being shot.
I realize that the fall-back position of most of your colleagues in Washington is to throw up their hands and lament that there is nothing they can do about handgun violence because the 2nd Amendment of the Constitution guarantees the right to bear arms. Or does it?
What I would like you to do is settle that question once and for all. …
