Women's Health at Heart of Coalition Drive

The Kane County Health Department is trying to start a group dedicated to addressing women's health concerns.
The new panel is called Health First: Kane County Women Speak Out. Leaders envision it becoming the county's first coalition to work on improving the health of women.
The effort comes courtesy of a $30,000 grant from the state Department of Public Health's office of women's health, said Nancy Wedemeyer, the county's health promotions nurse and community liaison.
Provena Mercy Center in Aurora and Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin are working with Wedemeyer to form the group.
"With the county's rapid population growth, I think there is increased interest in doing this," Wedemeyer said.
Representatives from the hospitals and health department are trying to recruit members for the new group. They are looking to tap people who belong to women's church or professional groups.
Once that's done, the group will send out a survey asking 1,000 women their perceptions on women's health needs in the county. …
