School District, Chamber Solidify Their Internship Partnership

Has a nice ring, no? It does for the 17-year-old Wheaton North senior who dreams of being an ER doctor one day.
For now, Andras volunteers at Central DuPage Hospital working as a "hugger" for sick kids, wheeling around patients or handing off medical charts to the proper people.
"This has just reinforced my desire," the high school cheerleader said. "It really feels like I belong here."
Andras' newfound experience, and the high school's internship program that made it possible, is an example the informal relationship between Wheaton's business community and Wheaton Warrenville Unit District 200.
That relationship, which has existed for years, gives knowledge no textbook can offer.
So on Thursday, District 200 Superintendent Gary Catalani and Wheaton Chamber of Commerce President Al Lautenslager solidified that relationship into a bona fide partnership.
That means more opportunities like the one Andras is experiencing now with Central DuPage, which is a chamber member.
"This partnership is viewed as a cooperative effort in which resources - human, material or financial - are formally shared," Lautenslager said at the chamber's monthly luncheon, at which the two leaders signed the partnership.
Lautenslager said internship programs like what Wheaton North offers are only the beginning of what the partnership can accomplish. …
