Director Seeks Federal Aid for Construction Projects
The Ela Area Public Library is looking for some state funding aid as it works on plans to build a new facility on South Old Rand Road.
Library Director Carol Larson said staff is seeking a $250,000 Library Services Technology Grant, administered through the state librarian to help libraries pay for their construction projects.
Larson said the library successfully sought a similar grant in its 1991 expansion.
While the money is not earmarked for a specific purpose, Larson said it will be used to bolster technology at the new library.
The library is trying to design a new 60,000-square-foot building, which will replace the existing facility on Buesching Road.
Voters in April approved a $13.9 million referendum to construct a library about twice the size of the current facility. The new building will be on South Old Rand Road, near Casper Hardware.
