"Advent Lessons and Carols" will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 1500 Brookdale Road, Naperville.
Originating in England more than 200 years ago, the concept of using Scripture readings around music in the form of carols has become a tradition in Anglican churches there.
Developed by the English, this style of church music has become very popular during the Christmas season. It has since taken off in many parts of the United States as well.
Though it is rather unique in this area, it was introduced to St. Thomas' congregation four years ago by Robert and Julie Frazier, co-directors of liturgy and music at the church.
The couple became familiar with this type of Advent service when they lived in South Bend, Ind., where the concept is used quite often.
