Wheelchair Basketball Game Helps Fund Judson Lift

The rules will be a bit different this weekend during a basketball game at Judson College in Elgin.
Players will have an extra second to possess the ball before they are fouled for traveling. They also will be allowed two pushes - instead of two steps - before the ball must hit the ground.
That's because a co-ed Judson College basketball team of about 15 players will hoop it up in wheelchairs Saturday to raise money for the college.
The team will play against the Wheelchair Bulls, a professional wheelchair basketball team sponsored by the Chicago Bulls.
The team, formed in 1987, is made up of men who have physical disabilities.
Judson College senior Tim Gomez organized the event to help raise part of the $5,000 needed to build a wheelchair lift in the student commons.
The college is asking for a $3 to $5 donation for admission to the game. Each ticket sold will contribute to the purchase of the lift, Gomez said. …
