Mammoth Pork Dinner Planned

Company is coming for dinner. In fact, an estimated 1,300 guests are expected.
For the 40th year, members of St. John's Lutheran Church and School will be serving pork dinners to the crowd from 4:30 to 7 p.m. March 10 at the school, 125 E. Seminary St., Wheaton.
This is a project of the St. John's Parent Teacher League, the Lutheran Brotherhood and the Aid Association for Lutherans.
Church member Burnham Wallace will reign as chef for the day. He will slave over the stove while 400 pounds of Canadian pork loin roasts in the oven and sauerkraut simmers on the stove.
The meal also will include mashed potatoes, green beans, applesauce, a relish tray, dessert and a beverage.
Wallace worked as a professional chef for 10 years and this gives people confidence, he said.
"My talents are few, but this is one talent I have that can help with God's work," Wallace said.
Another one of Wallace's talents is ice sculpting, which he also learned in the restaurant business.
In honor of the event's 40th anniversary, Wallace will attack a 500-pound block of ice with a chain saw and chisel to create an ice pig. …
