Arlington Heights Board Agrees, Third Antenna Tower a Possibility

Sometimes one is better than three, Arlington Heights trustees decided this week.
Trustees unanimously approved plans to erect a 439-foot antenna tower at 120 E. Boeger Drive. That may lead to the eventual removal of other antenna towers in town, village officials said.
Permission for California-based Salem Communications to build the new tower is conditional, however, upon consent from two federal agencies and agreements with other antenna operators to relocate to the new structure.
To get a building permit, Salem - owner of Christian radio station WYLL-FM (106.7) - must show a signed lease with WCBR-FM (92.7) to move the rock station's antenna to its new tower, Village Planner Bill Enright said.
Salem must also continue negotiations with Motorola to relocate that company's antenna, and allow a 911 antenna on the tower, rent-free, in perpetuity, village officials said.
Salem attorney George Maurides said the company could meet all those conditions, but balked at a provision that Salem and WCBR reach an agreement before knowing whether certain technical hurdles can be cleared. …
