In West Chicago, Task Force Formed to Support Projects

West Chicago's business community hopes a task force will help expedite new economic development.
The Chamber of Commerce and Industry's newly formed "Fast-Track Task Force" will help build consensus for proposed projects such as a giant Menard's home improvement store near Route 59 and North Avenue, Darrell Holmes, chamber president, said.
"The concern is to bring together a forum and focus on the issues, and let politics take a back seat," he said.
Two city council factions have squared off in the past over proposals such as Menard's and a commercial center near Washington Street and Route 59 that will be anchored by a drive-through Walgreen's drug store.
The Walgreen's project is now under way after about two years of haggling over the project. Developers, meanwhile, recently submitted a new plan for the Menard's after a slim council majority rejected a previous proposal.
Holmes said the chamber's new task force hopes to consult closely with the city over developments and to help expedite consideration of projects that will generate new revenue for local taxing districts. …
