Jacobs Dumps Woodstock, Earns Trip to Sectional Semis

Miffed after being handed what coach Jim Hinkle thought to be a paltry fifth seed in the Rockford Boylan sectional, Jacobs has been seeking respect ever since.
Friday night before a vast and noisy home crowd in Algonquin, Jacobs earned it from at least one Fox Valley Conference team.
With a spring in its step Gene Kelly would have admired, Jacobs' defense forced Woodstock into 27 turnovers and outrebounded the Blue Streaks 45-27, including 24-10 on the offensive glass.
With their 73-51 win - it was not that close - the Golden Eagles (18-11) earned not only respect, but a second straight regional title. Plus, a bus ride to Rock Valley Community College for the March 10 sectional semifinal game against Rockford Boylan, which beat Cary-Grove 94-50 on Friday.
"It's great," said Jacobs guard Chad Laham, holding one of the nets cut from the rim. "We're the first team that's ever done it in school history, so of course it feels good. We'll always be remembered as the team that won back-to-back."
Hinkle said, "We took it very personally that a lot of coaches in the conference didn't feel we deserved a seed up there, and we felt we had earned it.
"After (seeding) was over we ended up getting clobbered by (Crystal Lake) Central, but at the time we felt we did not get the respect we should have got," Hinkle said. "But that's one thing I told the kids. You've just got to go out and earn it. …
