Three-School Dance to Aid United Way

As the United Way of Palatine-Inverness-Rolling Meadows con-tinues its annual campaign, a group of local high school students is getting in on the fund-raising act, with the emphasis on "fun."
Students from Palatine, Fremd and St. Viator high schools are organizing a three-school dance Jan. 24. All the students are part of the Youth Committee of the local United Way. Proceeds from the event will go to support United Way causes.
Dawn Darby, a senior at Fremd High School, said many believe the tri-school dance may be a first for the Northwest suburban schools. The dance is a way to allow students who normally wouldn't interact to get to know each other, Darby said.
"We were trying to think of something that we could do to get the youth of our community involved in and we also decided this was a fun way to donate to charity," Darby said.
The dance will be held at the Northpoint Sport and Fitness Center, 1546 E. Dundee Road in Palatine, from 8:30 to 11:30 p.m. Jan 24.
The club is donating use of the facility for the dance, Darby said.
The cost is $3 to get in and students will need to have a valid student identification card.
Inside the dance, pizza and pop will be sold, probably for $1 each, Darby said.
Gym shoes or socks are recommended so Northpoint's gym floor stays unscuffed.
Darby said students are planning to put up about 1,000 posters advertising the tri-school dance.
Other students involved in organizing the dance are Fremd senior Sarah Allen, Palatine junior Ben Freeman, Palatine senior Megan Yeats, St. …
