Des Plaines Police hosting Citizens' Police Academy

The Des Plaines Police Department is hosting another session of the Citizens' Police Academy.

The 10-week course is held one night a week and is open to all Des Plaines residents over 21 years old.

The course includes classroom work, practical exercises and patrol car ride alongs. The class is free. The class size is limited and applicants are taken in the order they apply.

Elk Grove Village Library program ties songs to reading

The Elk Grove Village Public Library at 1001 Wellington Ave. is offering a program at 10:30 a.m. Saturday that combines music and literature for an interactive children's reading and singing program.

Nicole Allgood's Creative Musical Program includes familiar and new songs, puppets and musical instruments. The program is offered for preschool age children and up.

Roosevelt's Schaumburg campus expands class offerings

Roosevelt's Robin campus is now offering the criminal justice course Introduction to Justice Administration, a core course in Roosevelt University's criminal justice program, for the first time this semester.

The course will focus on how societies have developed laws and formal and informal systems to deal with crime. It will provide an overview of justice administration in the United States and explore how the police, courts and corrections systems interact.

Introduction to Justice Administration is the first in a series of criminal justice courses that will be taught at the Robin campus, 1651 McConnor Parkway, Schaumburg. For details, call (847) 619-8606.
