State chamber official to brief local body

Jeff Mays, vice-president of the Illinois Chamber of Commerce, will be the featured speaker at the Jan. 6 meeting of the Buffalo Grove Chamber of Commerce. He is scheduled to present an update on legislation in Springfield.

Networking for the meeting at the Grove Banquets in the Schwaben Center, 301 N. Weiland Road, will begin at 11:30 a.m. Cost is $13 for members, $16 for non-members. For more information, call (847)541-7799.

Juggler to entertain at Elk Grove library

Mike Vondruska, a juggler and unicyclist, will perform at the Elk Grove Village Library at 11 a.m. Tuesday at 1001 Wellington Ave. in Elk Grove Village. Athletic equipment purchase gets OK

District 214 board members approved bids for athletic and physical education equipment totaling almost $36,000. The bids - divided among 11 vendors from Arlington Heights-based Wright Tennis to Aluminum Athletic Equipment Co., in West Conshohocken, Penn., to Western Athletic in Riverside Calif. - came to $35,955.26. The money is payable from each high school's physical education and athletic supply account, district officials said.

Dist. 54 to hold classes for parents, teachers

Schaumburg Township Elementary School District 54 is offering two-session classes for parents and teachers this spring.

"Multiage Class for Teachers and Parents" will be from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. March 3 and 10. The class will explore the basic organization of a multi-age classroom, developmentally appropriate practices and will include observations of multi-age classrooms.

"Increasing Girls' Achievement in Math and Science" will be from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Feb. 3 and 10. The class will include discussions on research and the kinds of activities that enhance girls' interest and skills in math and science. Arlington library sets hours for 1998

Arlington Heights Memorial Library will close at 5 p.m. New Year's Eve. The library, 500 N. Dunton Ave., will remain closed on New Year's Day, but will re-open for regular hours on Friday. …
