Wheeling to Finance Police Station Renovation

Wheeling's police force soon will have more room, thanks to a village board vote to spend more than $90,000 to renovate part of the village hall.
The board voted 4-2 Monday to spend $93,740 to renovate the building at 255 W. Dundee Road to give police an additional 3,000 square feet of space.
The space had been used by the village's community development department, which moved to offices in the neighboring Wickes Furniture Co. Inc. store.
The move will help - but won't solve the department's problem of cramped quarters at village hall.
"It doesn't solve the problem but does give us some breathing room," Chief Michael F. Haeger said.
Police officials will use the new space for records, administrative offices and expanded locker rooms. The work is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
The 85-member department now has about 16,000 square feet of space. A village study recommended the force needs another 10,000 square feet of space. …
