Most Elgin Community College students are working people with families who must find time to squeeze classes into their busy schedules.
It is for that reason the college is constantly seeking ways to improve its already flexible class offerings.
Students have the choice of day or night classes, full- or part-time schedules and even distance learning, in which they can take an ECC class via television from another location.
Last year, the college joined the technology wave and offered its first class over the Internet.
The success of the course, taught by Mark Pelczarksi, has sparked a move to offer more.
ECC is offering seven Internet courses this fall. The courses: Introduction to Computers; Visual Programming; English Composition I; Introduction to Literature - The Short Story; Quantitative Literacy; and Office Automation Concepts are three-credit courses. The college algebra course is four credits and is the only course that requires students to step onto campus - for exams.
Course fees range from $127.50 to $170.
Students can get a quick peek at the courses on the ECC Internet home page at www.elgin.cc.il.us. by clicking on Virtual Classrooms.
A description of each course, including class assignments and sample lessons, can be seen. …
