Eight Districts Get OK to Form New Special Education Group

Eight DuPage County school districts will stand alone when it comes to special education.
Creation of a new group, the North DuPage Special Education Cooperative, got the nod of approval this week from regional school trustees.
That means the districts may leave the School Association for Special Education in DuPage County, directly receive state and federal funds, and provide all of their own special education programs.
"We have a common interest here. We have an awful lot of common ground here and we want to keep that," Jerome Gordon told the regional board Monday night.
The superintendent of Bloomingdale Elementary District 13 said the districts have worked together - on their own - for more than a year. They've reduced their costs and kept kids living in their districts in programs that are close to home.
Six elementary districts are in the new group; Bensenville District 2, Wood Dale District 7, Itasca District 10, Medinah District 11, Roselle District 12 and Bloomingdale District 13; and two high school districts, Fenton District 100 and Lake Park District 108. …
