Wheaton Knights' Fund-Raiser to Help Disabled Member

If it were not for friends and neighbors, Barbara Ziemiecki of Wheaton does not know how her family would have coped during the past year.
Her 54-year-old husband, Chet, suffered a disabling brain aneurysm and stroke on a business trip in 1995.
The Knights of Columbus at St. Daniel the Prophet Church in Wheaton held a benefit dinner last fall and raised $35,000 to help the family pay medical bills and other expenses.
Chet Ziemiecki spent three months in a Missouri hospital before the group arranged for a plane needed to transfer him up to an area hospital. Chet now is recovering at the DuPage County Convalescent Center in Wheaton.
The Knights of Columbus will conduct its second annual pasta dinner for the family Saturday.
"I don't know how my family would have gotten through without them," Barbara Ziemiecki said.
About a month before his stroke, Ziemiecki had been elected deputy grand knight of the Knights of Columbus, which is the second highest office within the organization, said Grand Knight Kevin Hennager. …
