'Friend' Raiser at St. Viator Not a Typical Block Party

Supporters with St. Viator High School in Arlington Heights figure not every fund-raiser has to make bundles of money. There is something to be said for the "friend" raising that goes on.
Consequently, the school's second annual block party attempts to do just that. The event takes place at 6 p.m. Sept. 21, under a tent on school grounds.
The $30 ticket for the event includes a lavish buffet dinner - definitely a cut above the typical block party fare, organizers say -and plenty of show-stopping entertainment by popular singer Ronnie Rice.
While the event is not intended to be a major fund-raiser, organizers are not turning away donations. Proceeds raised from the event are earmarked for a faculty endowment fund that would help pay for teachers to take college classes.
What's more, the evening will be dedicated to Robert Ruhl. Ruhl is 25-year English teacher at the school and a favorite among the alumni, who continues to set high standards with his honors English classes. …
