Burlington Central Blasts by Hampshire

Both sides hit hard as Burlington Central coach Dave Bierman had predicted would be the case against rival Hampshire. But in the end, the Rockets had little trouble against last year's Class 2A state champions in a 41-6 victory.
"Obviously they're down," Bierman said. "But Hampshire didn't give up."
Burlington Central running back Coco Acevedo set the tone with a 66-yard romp to the end zone to score the Rockets' (3-0) first points. Before the first quarter was over, he notched his second touchdown on a 4-yard burst.
In the second quarter, Rockets quarterback Roy Stevenson got loose for a 63-yard scoring run and running back Bob Gillman squirted in from the 2. Mike Schubert capped the half with a 48-yard jaunt to put Burlington up 34-0.
Tom Gould zipped in from the 15 at the start of the third quarter to end the Rockets scoring.
Hampshire (0-3) finally answered with a 65-yard scoring run from Adam McCarthy, the Whip-Purs last remaining member of the 1995 titlists. …
