Carpet Expert Helps Keep Flooring Industry in Line
Byline: Kim Mikus
If you have a question about the installation of a rug or how to clean a floor, just call the carpet cop.
Ron Gould, owner of Libertyville- based Consumer Carpet Consultants, is in the business of detecting problems or suspicious activity. He conducts inspections for attorneys, property managers, retail stores or consumers.
"I feel like I'm being questioned for a crime," clients often say jokingly when Gould examines floor-covering problems.
Homeowners may call the Lake County man if they find a line in their carpet. Often times the problem is crushed fiber or can be taken care of by steaming.
In addition to finding problems with carpet, the "cop" also offers advice before a customer makes a purchase.
"I tell them how much yardage they need and educate them on carpet scams," he said. He stresses that people should do their homework, check fibers and know how much carpet they need.
Gould, 44, is not new to the industry. "Everybody in my family has been in the carpet business," he said.
Gould started about 13 years ago in the retail industry and later kicked off a manufacturing business specializing in custom installation, where he worked for major retailers.
While in this position, Gould found he was being asked to fix problems most of the time. About a year ago, he decided to change the focus of his business.
