Community Crisis Center Searches for Volunteers
Byline: Barbara Ferguson
August is just around the corner, and once again the Community Crisis Center, which serves Dundee Township residents, is providing the opportunity for them to help victims. Coordinators are looking for volunteers to serve as advocates for sexual assault and domestic violence victims.
The volunteers will be working in crisis intervention with victims of rape and domestic violence and their families and significant others.
Volunteer advocates will meet with victims at Sherman, St. Joseph, Delnor hospitals and the local police departments.
Fall training begins Thursday, Aug. 29 and ends Nov. 14. Volunteers will receive training from professionals with the Community Crisis Center, the criminal justice system, police departments, hospital emergency rooms and other local agencies.
Participants are under no obligation to be volunteers. Volunteers who are bilingual and who can sign are particularly needed. Elgin Community College credits and credit toward social works degrees are available.
To register or for more information, call the Community Crisis Center at (847) 697-2380.
Last year this training program filled up quickly, so it would be best to call soon.
