Benefit Falls Short of Goal, but Raises Hope for Future

Their dream may not have come completely true, but officials at a Palatine crisis pregnancy center say a recent fund-raiser was a big success.
Although they were hoping to raise $76,000 at their annual "Share the Dream Charity Dinner-Dance," officials at the Society for the Preservation of Human Dignity Women's Counseling Center said they pulled in a total of $31,000.
Looking on the bright side, Executive Director Janet W. Hauter said the non-profit organization made more money than last year.
"We pulled in $3,450 more than last year, so that's a good trend," she said.
Hauter said the event, held at The Cotillion Banquets in Palatine, was very successful, attracting more than 200 people.
"It was wonderful," she said, adding the formal event, which featured an auction, also was a celebration of the organization's 25th anniversary.
To mark the milestone, Rita Cole, one of the organization's original co-founders, was honored. …
