NEW YORK - It wasn't much of a tuneup, but Joe Magrane says he's ready to return to the starting rotation.
The 31-year-old left-hander, a former starter with St. Louis and California, is scheduled to start on Saturday when the Yankees visit Comiskey Park.
Magrane pitched two-thirds of an inning in relief against New York Sunday and gave up 3 runs on 3 hits and 2 walks.
"Magrane had a rough outing," manager Terry Bevington said.
Magrane, who gave up 2 runs in 3 1/3 innings at Cleveland last Wednesday, agreed with Bevington's assessment.
"It was just one of those things," Magrane said. "I just have to try to not let it happen again."
As for taking the mound as a starter, Magrane feels he can get the job done.
"I have no reservations about it at all," he said. "I'm looking forward to it and I'll just try to be ready and pitch like I can when they call on me."
- Jason Bere is eligible to come off the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, but don't look for the White Sox' right-handed starter to be rejoining the rotation anytime soon. …
