1996-97 Student Council Voted In

More than 60 student council members voted April 17 for the Jacobs student council executive board for the 1996-97 school year. Out of about 15 people running for the five positions, Adam Guzzi was chosen president. with Amy Odgers as vice president. Amber Chess was voted secretary, and next year's treasurer is Megan Yoshimura. The parliamentarian position will be held by Kathleen Somera.
Two things President-elect Guzzi is planning on doing is making school more fun, and increasing communication between teachers, administrators and the council. The latter, he feels, is the most important issue of the day.
"We are trying to improve communication by making another executive position called the public relations officer to handle all publicity and communications between us, the school and the community," he said. Guzzi also feels the executive board should meet regularly with the administration.
As next year's treasurer, Yoshimura also wants to improve communication, especially among students and their government. "With the ideas of the student body I hope to provide more activities that will encourage further student involvement in council activities," she said.
As the new Parliamentarian Somera said she plans to use the position to "aid the president and the rest of the council the best possible way I can," she said. …
