Lake in the Hills Delays Decision on Waste Hauler

Lake in the Hills trustees decided Thursday to wait two more weeks before awarding a three-year waste-hauling contract to one of five bidders.
The move upset Patrick Geenen, general manager of Superior Services of Elgin Inc., the low-bidder on the contract. Geenen said trustees were supposed to vote on the contract four weeks ago. Now, a vote will not happen until May 23.
"We've done everything we possibly can to appease the board," Geenen said. "We're excited to start working with you."
Trustees, however, are not sure if they want to work with the South Elgin waste hauler. Trustees Tom Swan and Joe Murawski said residents are pleased with the company's present hauler, Arc Disposal & Recycling Inc. of Mount Prospect. Its contract expires June 30.
"Everybody has told me they've been pleased with the (garbage) service they've had over the past two years," Murawski said before the meeting. "Why should we change?"
