Arlington Rotary Welcomes Norwegian Businessmen

The world just became a little smaller for members of the Rotary Club of Arlington Heights.
After planning for six months, the noon and breakfast chapters of the Rotary Club of Arlington Heights and the Rotary Club of Long Grove sponsored a business exchange group from Norway.
The team of five Norwegian business leaders, led by a Rotarian, were the featured speakers Thursday night at a dinner held at the Scandinavian Club in Arlington Heights.
Norwegian Consulate General Per Bye Ohrstrom, an Arlington Heights resident and member of the noon Rotary chapter, welcomed the guests.
"This demonstrates how important Rotary is to international relations. These people are ambassadors for Norway," said Ohrstrom.
Their presentation opened with traditional Norwegian folk dances and included a slide presentation and descriptions of their daily lives.
The meeting attracted more than 125 Rotarians from some 25 different Rotary clubs in the northeast district, said Jim Runnfeldt, chairman of the event, and a member of the Rotary Club of Long Grove.
"What we're doing tonight is very important; it's what makes the world a lot smaller," said Jim Hassenplug, president-elect of the Arlington Heights noon Rotary club, which will sponsor an outbound exchange group of six local business leaders to Norway at the beginning of May. …
