Economic Development Director Maps Plans for Barrington Growth

A new economic development initiative is being hailed by Barrington village officials as they review its effect on the $14.7 million spending plan proposed for next year.
Peggy Blanchard, a newly-hired director of economic development for the village, presented specific plans for breathing new life into revitalizing the downtown area.
They include having a market analysis of downtown business property, direct mailings to existing and potential businesses, and hosting and attending conferences coordinated by local, regional and state-wide commerce departments.
"We're really at an important time, and I'm really excited," Blanchard said.
Blanchard's position is new for the village, and it came about after a reorganization of the former community development department. The planning and inspection aspects of that department were moved to the public works and the fire departments, respectively, to make way for the separate economic development department.
According to a comparison in financial impact requested by trustees, a net increase of about $63,000 resulted from the reorganization of village services. …
