Buffalo Grove-Long Grove Elementary District 96 board members Tuesday night put a face on a nebulous proposal that for months has been referred to as "possible budget cuts."
Board members identified more than $700,000 worth of teaching positions, supplies and equipment targeted for elimination from its 1996-97 budget.
The cuts, and about $179,000 in new fees that would be charged to parents, are what officials believe will be necessary if voters don't agree to a tax increase in a March 19 referendum.
One of the major areas being targeting is the number of teachers.
No teachers are expected to be cut in the first year, but eight needed to meet growing enrollment would not be hired, saving about $384,979.
The cut, however, would increase class sizes from an average of about 25 children to about 27, with some classes as high as 35, board President Marc Spivac said.
Parents likely would be expected to pay new fees for students.
Such fees could include a $20 technology fee for students in first through eighth grade and $10 for kindergartners. …
