Briargate, a town-house community in Grayslake, not only is winning accolades from buyers as evidenced by sales, but from the home building industry as well.

Schaumburg-based Ryland Homes opened models in June and received five awards for its Wellington model at Briargate during the recent Lake County Tour of Homes.

"The awards reflect what we're seeing in sales, and to be recognized for quality and creativity by members of the home-building industry is a great honor as well," says Robert Meyn, sales and marketing manager.

"Our designs have proven popular with today's home buyers and it is very rewarding to be recognized for excellence by our peers."

Presented annually by the Home Builders Association of Lake County, the awards acknowledge achievements in the areas of landscape architecture, merchandising and architectural design, as well as innovation in interior and exterior design of model homes.

The Wellington clinched awards for overall landscaping, interior merchandising, kitchen, master bedroom suite and interior architecture for multi-family homes priced under $170,000.

Briargate will include 200 town houses when complete. Forty-one have been sold so far, mostly to first-time buyers from Lake County, Meyn says.

"I think buyers are attracted to the community because it is very style- and design-oriented, and at the same time, it's very affordable," Meyn says.

The location has a lot of appeal, as well. Meadowview School is within walking distance, and the community is surrounded on two sides by forest preserves.

"All this provides a real residential feel," Meyn says.

Five plans, ranging in size from 1,200 to 1,436 square feet and in price from $107,990 to $122,990, are available.

The award-winning Wellington is the largest, providing more than 1,436 square feet of living space. It includes living and dining rooms, kitchen with breakfast area and powder room on the first floor. Upstairs, there are three bedrooms, two baths and a laundry room. The Wellington is priced from $122,990.

The $120,990 Alcott also is spacious, providing 1,344 square feet of living space. …
