Rolling Meadows Approves Site for Historical Museum Plan Features Replica Kimball Hill Home

The Rolling Meadows historical museum finally seems ready to make history.
More than a year after beginning to talk about the museum, Rolling Meadows aldermen this week gave zoning approval for the project.
Elected officials acknowledged there had been some opposition to the selected location, which is the former public works garage at 3200 Central Road.
However, the city would never succeed in making improvements if it worried about pleasing everyone, Mayor Thomas F. Menzel said.
Seventh Ward Alderman Rudolf Balek raised the only question at this week's meeting about the proposal, asking about the location. He spoke on behalf of neighboring residents who had attended three meetings in opposition to the plan.
"When the city was first presented with this, we had a place where the city owned and could manage the property, and we were only affecting one property owner on the corner," Balek said.
He referred to a well site on the north side of Central Road, east of Clearbrook. The museum committee decided that site had disadvantages in the form of existing utilities, limited city control over parking and greater distance to park district facilities. …
