Korea Leads World in Broadband Internet Penetration
Korea has leads in broadband Internet penetration with more than half of Korean households using high-speed Internet solutions, according to a survey by an Internet measuring firm NetValue.
Of the 11 countries studied, the United States is second behind Korea in percentage of households connected to broadband, where one in nine online households use broadband.
Korea boasts of being the most wired country in the world with 57.3 percent household broadband penetration.
``In terms of broadband penetration, the figure in the U.S. is significantly lower than Korea's,'' it said.
France has the highest percentage of broadband households in Europe, with one in 16 online households having a broadband connection, twice that found in the United Kingdom. Only one in 32 online households use broadband in the U.K., which is still lagging far behind Asia, the rest of Europe and the U.S. in home broadband connections.
Broadband Internet solutions can include cable, satellite, asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) or T1/leased line connections.
In addition, the survey said nearly 74 percent of the Korean Internet population used audio or video, and 54 percent participated in online gaming. …
