Alexian Brothers Kicks off Full-Time Kindergarten Program
Byline: Ames Boykin
As the child-care center at Alexian Brothers Medical Center enters adolescence, it will be branching out.
The 12-year-old center will begin offering a full-time kindergarten program because of interest from the community and hospital employees.
Applications are being accepted for the class starting this fall.
The program will operate from the child-care center's philosophy of learning through play. Using that theory, the class will mix games with social skills and academics.
Weekly lesson themes will be based on issues relevant to children. Classes will also incorporate basic learning skills and physical fitness.
Teachers who are certified in elementary education will run the program and work closely with students.
The staff will meet with families to customize learning experiences and to address developmental details. Space in the class is limited. For more information, call Gail Kulick, director of the center, at (847) 981-5929.
Garden Ball: Tickets are available for the annual Alexian Brothers Foundation Garden Ball fund-raiser on May 5.
The gala at Drury Lane in Oakbrook Terrace will feature two musical acts: Motown icons The Supremes with Mary Wilson and The Temptation Review with Dennis Edwards.
Proceeds will go toward the hospital's Cancer Institute.
Tickets for the Garden Ball will cost $300. For information, contact the Alexian Brothers Foundation office at (847) 437-5500, Ext. 4388, or log onto the Web site at www.alexianfoundation.org.
