No matter how much European socialists complain, President Bush has taken precisely the right tack on the issue of climate change.
He said we need better information.
Virtually every credible scientific study has made the same point. However, the studies have been manipulated by politicians and the media to appear to be a ringing endorsement of the theory of global warming.
One reason for the uncertainty is the inability of scientists, even armed with the most modern, most powerful computers, to adequately model the incredibly complex world weather patterns, and therefore forecast trends.
Making the same argument is James J. O'Brien, the state of Florida's climatologist and professor of meteorology and oceanography at Florida State University.
O'Brien is critical of Environmental Protection Agency forecasts that most of Florida south of Orlando will disappear from rising sea levels. Other predictions show much less rise, he said.
Like others, O'Brien makes the point that carbon dioxide -- the major threat, according to Kyoto enthusiasts -- is good for the environment. …
